Vice President Kashim Shettima has announced Nigeria’s ambition to become a leading hub in the global halal economy, projected to reach $7.7 trillion by 2025.

Speaking at the Halal Economy Stakeholders Engagement Programme in Abuja, he highlighted Nigeria’s economic size and demographic advantages as key factors for this initiative.

Shettima emphasized the need to reassess weaknesses and leverage strengths to develop a robust halal ecosystem.

He noted that strategic partnerships with international organizations are essential for Nigeria to become a top halal exporter.

The Vice President also pointed out the significant contributions of the private sector, especially in finance, and urged stakeholders to collaborate with the government to promote halal investments.

He mentioned that Nigeria’s domestic spending on halal products reached $107 billion in 2022 and is expected to grow significantly.

Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari and Minister of Finance Wale Edun supported Shettima’s vision, outlining the vast potential of halal products beyond just the Muslim population.

The government is also working with international bodies to ensure Nigerian halal products meet global standards.
