President Bola Tinubu has canceled his trip to the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, citing pressing domestic issues.
Vice President Kashim Shettima will now lead Nigeria’s delegation to the global summit, which holds from September 24 to 28, 2024.
According to a statement von Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s decision is rooted in his desire to address national challenges, particularly those arising from the recent devastating floods.
“Tinubu aims to concentrate on addressing various challenges facing the country,” the statement read.

Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement, participate in key sideline events, and engage in bilateral meetings during the UNGA.
