Nigeria to Build Buffer Dams Against Floods

Flood Scare For Nigerians as Cameroon Plan Opening Lagdo Dam

In a bid to mitigate the effects of flooding caused by the release of water from Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam, the federal government has announced plans to build five buffer dams.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) revealed this on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief program on Thursday.

NIHSA’s Director of Operations and Hydrology, Femi Bajide stressed the need for urgent action during the program.

After the de-silting, the federal government plans to expand the tributaries of the River Niger and River Benue to manage flooding.

This move aims to reduce the impact of flooding on affected communities, particularly in the Benue river basin, Adamawa, and the Niger Delta.
