A bogus soap product, falsely labelled as ‘Dettol Health Fresh Soap’, has been flagged by the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
NAFDAC has issued a stark warning, cautioning consumers about the dangers of using this counterfeit product, which has been reported to cause skin irritation.
The manufacturer of genuine Dettol Antiseptic products, Reckitt Benckiser Nigeria Limited, has confirmed that they do not produce any item by this name, thereby debunking the authenticity of the fake product.
NAFDAC has explained that the illegal marketing of unapproved or counterfeit products poses great health risks, as they do not meet regulatory standards.

Therefore, the agency has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to conduct surveillance and confiscate any fake products discovered in their respective areas.
Consumers are advised to exercise extreme caution and vigilance when purchasing medical products, ensuring they only buy from authorised and licensed suppliers.
It urged customers to report any suspicions of counterfeit products immediately to NAFDAC using its website; www.nafdac.gov.ng.
In a bid to tackle this issue, NAFDAC revealed it is collaborating with the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Surveillance and Monitoring System to prevent the spread of fake products.
