Counterfeit Drugs, Medical Devices Worth N43bn Destroyed by NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) destroyed substandard products worth N43 billion in Ibadan, Oyo State.

NAFDAC revealed that the substandard products were falsified drugs, medical devices, and other unwholesome regulated products.

According to it, the destruction exercise was carried out at a dumpsite in Moniya, Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.

The counterfeit products were voluntarily handed over to NAFDAC by compliant companies, non-governmental organisations, and trade unions.

It also seized products including, phrodisiacs, sex enhancement drugs, and over-the-counter medicines, prescription-only medications.

Others were banned Codeine substances, narcotic drugs, antimalarials, analgesics, and antibiotics worth over N48 million.

NAFDAC also seized illicit and unregistered pharmaceutical products such as Codeine syrup, expired Tramadol, and aphrodisiacs, antimalarials.

The rest include drugs, as well as contraband soaps, tomato paste, unregistered and counterfeit drinks, food products, perfumes, and body sprays.

The agency urged the public to support its fight against counterfeit drugs, fake products, and unwholesome processed food by reporting unscrupulous manufacturers and businessmen engaging in illegal practices.
