In a move to enhance security during the upcoming Edo State governorship election, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has announced a ban on security aides and escorts for politicians and VIPs.

The announcement comes as part of comprehensive measures to promote a peaceful and transparent electoral environment.

The IGP’s directive includes a restriction on all vehicular movement from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on election day, with exceptions for accredited media, electoral officials, ambulances, and emergency responders.

“To ensure a credible electoral process, we have implemented these security measures,” stated Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

“Special attention will also be given to vulnerable groups, including individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, and the elderly, to ensure accessibility at polling stations.”

These measures are intended to facilitate a safe and orderly voting experience as citizens prepare to cast their votes on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
