The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to dismiss Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), citing his gross incompetence amid ongoing allegations against former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
In a statement released by its media and strategy committees, CUPP expressed disappointment with the EFCC’s handling of Bello’s case, which has been marked by “inexplicable back-and-forth” and a lack of decisive action.
The Coalition noted that despite declaring Bello wanted and placing him on an international watchlist, the EFCC allowed him to leave its headquarters without interrogation during his recent appearance.
“Letting a wanted individual walk away is unacceptable,” the statement read. CUPP criticized the EFCC for sending armed operatives to a sitting governor’s residence to attempt an arrest, calling the actions “ridiculous and flimsy.”

They warned that such incidents could severely destabilize Nigeria’s political climate.
CUPP further argued that Olukoyede’s leadership has been marred by controversy, including allegations of human rights abuses by EFCC operatives.

The group emphasized that appointing a professional from a security background as EFCC chairman is essential for restoring the agency’s credibility.
“With this kind of leadership, the EFCC remains handicapped in effectively fighting corruption,” CUPP concluded, insisting that immediate action is needed to restore public trust in Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.
