  • A video making rounds online has shown the moments before a boat capsized in Niger State.

  • In the video making rounds online, the boat, which is supposed to carry 100 people was seen being loaded with 300 people who weren’t wearing life jackets.

Daily Report Nigeria recalls that an horrific boat accident has reportedly claimed the lives of 150 people after it capsized in Niger State.

 

The boat was said to have been conveying passengers to Gbajibo village in Mokwa local council of Niger State after local market day on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 whwn thw incident happened.

In a video shown on Channels Television, the locally wooden boat could be seen being overloaded.

As of last night, a combined effort by the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), the Niger State National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and local divers had recovered 70 bodies and rescued 150 passengers.

The search for the remaining missing passengers is still ongoing.
