Speed Darlington Released on Bail After Five Days in Detention | Daily Report Nigeria

Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been released on bail after spending five days in police custody.

His detention stemmed from a formal complaint filed by Grammy Award winner Burna Boy, who accused Darlington of defamation and cyberstalking.

Deji Adeyanju, the human rights lawyer representing Darlington, confirmed that he was initially arrested in Lagos last Friday before being transferred to Abuja for further detention.

Adeyanju reported that Darlington was released to his lawyer on Tuesday evening after fulfilling the bail conditions imposed by the authorities.

In a statement via X, Adeyanju expressed gratitude to those who supported Darlington’s release and commended the professionalism of the police in the IRT department.

A viral video featuring Darlington has surfaced, in which he challenges Burna Boy to clarify how he won the Grammy for his album Twice As Tall, while also referencing the troubles faced by US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.

Also, Darlington’s mother appeared in a separate video pleading with Burna Boy to “tamper justice with mercy” regarding her son’s situation.
