Reps Pass Bill Requiring Portfolios for Ministerial Nominations | Daily Report Nigeria

The House of Representatives has passed a significant bill aimed at improving the confirmation process for ministerial nominees by mandating the inclusion of specific portfolios in nomination lists submitted by the President and State Governors.

The bill advanced to its second reading on November 1, 2024, following a compelling debate led by Representative Okechukwu Dibiagwu.

Dibiagwu argued that the requirement for portfolios will allow lawmakers to conduct more targeted and effective scrutiny during confirmation processes.

He stated, “Attaching portfolios to the list of nominations for ministerial positions will enhance thorough scrutiny of nominees by lawmakers at both national and state assemblies.”
