The Federal Government has lifted the restriction on the posting of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to private sector organizations, including industries like banking, oil and gas, and more.
The new policy shift, which aims to expand opportunities for corps members and align with President Bola Tinubu’s youth employment strategy, was announced by the Minister for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, in a memo dated November 18, 2024.
The policy change, which takes effect with the commencement of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course, allows corps members to serve in private sector roles, a significant departure from the previous restriction under former Minister Bolaji Abdullahi.
The earlier policy limited postings to public sector organizations in the fields of education, agriculture, health, and infrastructure.

Olawande explained that the updated policy is designed to provide youth with the practical skills and experience needed to thrive in today’s competitive job market.
“The previous policy hindered Nigerian youths from acquiring the practical skills and exposure necessary for success,” he said, emphasizing that this new direction will help corps members better prepare for the workforce.

The change will initially be implemented in Lagos and Abuja, with plans for expansion to other states in the future.
The Minister stressed that the new posting directive will allow corps members to serve in areas relevant to their academic fields, thus enhancing their career prospects.
“We are lifting all restrictions on postings, with corps members now eligible to serve in select private sector organizations, including banks and firms in the oil and gas sector,” the memo reads.
