The Federal Government has confirmed that it will cease the October 2024 monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenue payment to Rivers State, following a court order.

The decision comes amid a deepening political dispute between Governor Simi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesome Wike.

Bawa Mokwa, the Spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), stated that the government would fully comply with the court ruling, which bars the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the federal authorities from disbursing the monthly allocation to the state.

Mokwa emphasized that as long as the court order stands, the government would respect it and ensure there is no deviation unless directed otherwise by a superior court ruling.

“The October 2024 FAAC has not been distributed yet. However, the Federal Government will adhere to the court order on Rivers State allocation,” Mokwa said.

The court order stems from a case filed by the factional Rivers State Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule.

The faction accused the state executive, under Governor Fubara’s leadership, of failing to comply with a Federal High Court ruling requiring the presentation of the 2024 appropriation bill to their faction of the state assembly.

The legal standoff has added another layer of complexity to the already tense political landscape in Rivers State, as the dispute between the governor and the federal authorities deepens.
