A devastating fire broke out at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Saturday morning, causing extensive damage to hospital property valued in the millions of naira.

The blaze, which started around 5 a.m., severely affected the Emergency and Accident Unit of the facility.

It was gathered that the fire began in the office of a pediatric consultant, with some sources within the hospital attributing it to an electrical spark.

Office equipment, books, electronics, and structural components, including the roof and ceiling, were reportedly destroyed by the fire.

In response to the emergency, hospital staff quickly evacuated 16 patients from the affected wards to ensure their safety.

Confirming the incident, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Omotayo Ogunleye, assured the public that despite the damage, hospital operations had returned to normal.

“Yes, it is true. It is a minor incident, but normal activities have resumed in the hospital,” Ogunleye said in a phone interview with Daily Post.
