The Managing Director of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), Dr. Olufemi Ogunyemi, has announced that the Lekki Textile and Garment Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Eyin-Osa, Epe, Lagos State, is set to generate 25,000 jobs when fully operational.
Ogunyemi disclosed that 5,000 direct and over 20,000 indirect jobs would be created, benefiting the local community and the broader South-West region.
Speaking at the disbursement of compensation to seven families who contributed a total of 240.09 acres of land for the project, Ogunyemi emphasized that the SEZ aligns with the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.
He explained that the initiative aims to drive economic growth, attract foreign direct investment, and foster community development in line with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s objectives.

“The Lekki Textile and Garment SEZ will not only generate jobs but will also enhance infrastructure, provide backward linkages, and create opportunities for local businesses,” Ogunyemi said, adding that the SEZ would serve export markets, boosting the country’s textile and garment sectors.
The initiative also seeks to apply NEPZA’s new Community Social Regeneration concept, promoting long-term cooperation between the government and local communities.
Ogunyemi expressed optimism that the Lekki project would pave the way for similar zones in other regions, contributing to nationwide economic growth.

The Eyin-Osa community, which has been occupied for over 500 years, has seen its land increasingly claimed by external parties since 2003. However, the current compensation package and government’s support have renewed hopes for local prosperity.
Muftau Shittu, president of the Eyin-Osa United Kingdom Development Association, expressed gratitude for the government’s approach.
“We are pleased with the government’s commitment to regenerating our land,” Shittu said.
