IGP Bans Arbitrary Arrest, Youth Harassment By Police

It seems power has changed hand concerning the unending harassment and extortion by the Nigerian police, as the inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun sends a new order.

Daily Report Nigeria recalls various backlash and call to order received by the police on social media platform, X, concerning numerous arbitrary arrest, extortion and many others.

 

This new order is also rumoured to have been made, after the UK Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch counted the numerous crimes by the officers of the law, which include the theft of her brothers shoes and wristwatches.

In the order, which is titled: “Order and Directives: Arbitrary Arrest and Detention,” and has been sent to all state police command in the country, the IGP ordered that all youth harassment, seizure of phones and unnecessary arrest by the police at checkpoints.

The IGP also emphasized on the dangers of police brutality, which include the dreaded 2020 EndSARS protest.
