  • The Federal Government of Nigeria has received $52.88 million in recovered assets linked to former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, from the United States.

  • The recovered funds will be utilized for rural electrification projects and combating corruption.

  • Lateef Fagbemi hailed the asset return as a milestone in Nigeria’s collaboration with the US to combat corruption.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially received $52.88 million in recovered assets linked to former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, from the United States.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, disclosed this during a formal signing ceremony in Abuja.

According to Fagbemi, $50 million of the recovered funds will be deployed through the World Bank for the development of rural electrification projects, while the remaining $2 million will be utilized by the International Institute of Justice to expand the justice system and combat corruption.

He also described the event as a crucial step by President Bola Tinubu in addressing corruption.

US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, emphasized the need for effective monitoring and utilization of the recovered assets to ensure they directly benefit Nigerians.

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has openly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s policies, stating that they are causing hardship for Nigerians.

According to Governor Mohammed, the president’s policies are not only affecting the people but also the state governors.
