  • The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has stated that the National Grid will continue to collapse until the repair of the Ugwachi-Bauchi-Makurdi line is executed.

  • Adelabu attributed the collapse of the grid to insecurity in the north.

  • The minister defended his ministry’s 2025 budget before the Senate Committee on Power, justifying the allocation of funds for various projects, including the completion of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) priority projects.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has revealed that the National Grid will continue to experience collapses until the repair of the Ugwachi-Bauchi-Makurdi line is completed.

Adelabu made this disclosure while defending his ministry’s 2025 budget before the Senate Committee on Power.

According to the minister, the inability to repair the damaged line due to insecurity in the north has put undue pressure on existing infrastructure, making the grid fragile.

“The grid is old and requires a total overhaul to make it efficient,” Adelabu stated.

Adelabu also addressed the issue of the grid’s collapses in 2024, stating that there were eight collapses, with five being full collapses and three partial collapses.

He attributed three of the full collapses to generation problems, while two were due to vandalism.

“We have decided to do a little of our own part by completing between 8 and 12 of the projects, which is why we appropriated N25 billion,” Adelabu explained.
