  • New cases of the dreaded virus, Lassa Fever has been confirmed in Nigeria.

  • The NCDC recorded an high fatality rate of 18.5%.

  • 78% of the total confirmed cases were gotten from three cases.

Following numerous suspected cases of Lassa Fever in the December, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC has released a new memo.

Daily Report Nigeria recalls that the agency confirmed a total 194 suspected cases in December 30.

In recent updates, a total of 54 cases of Lassa Fever has been confirmed, with 10 deaths as at January 5, 2025.

The memo also adds that the virus cut across 6 states, with 78% gotten from Ondo, Edo, and Bauchi.

The report read partly,

In week 1, the number of new confirmed cases decreased from 70 in epi week 52, of 2024 to 54. These were reported in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, Ebonyi, and Kogi State.

“In total for 2025, six States have recorded at least one confirmed case across 20 LGAs.”

 

The report added that the infection rate increased compared to this same period in the previous year, 2024.

Age grade affected by this virus include age 21-30 years (Range: 3 to 70 years, Median Age:31.5 years). The male-to-female ratio for confirmed cases is 1:0.6.

 

NLC Condemns Petrol Price Hike as Insensitive to Masses

NLC has criticized the recent hike in petrol prices, describing it as insensitive to the masses.

The Dangote refinery attributed the price increase to the rise in global crude oil prices.
