In a move praised by the Israeli far right, President Donald Trump has lifted US sanctions imposed by his predecessor, Joe Biden, on extremist settlers in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

The sanctions were imposed on Israeli settler groups and individuals accused of violence against Palestinians.

The Israeli government, under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was accused of not doing enough to stop the attacks, which escalated in the wake of the October 7, 2023 massacre by Hamas fighters in southern Israel.

Just hours after being sworn in for a second term, Trump announced the rescinding of Biden’s sanctions.

The decision was welcomed by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who thanked Trump for his “just decision.”

Smotrich wrote on X, “These sanctions were a severe and blatant foreign intervention in Israel’s internal affairs and an unjustified violation of democratic principles and the mutual respect that should guide relations between friendly nations.”

Itamar Ben-Gvir, the former national security minister, also praised Trump’s decision, calling it “historic.”

The Minister of State for Transportation, Ademola Adegoroye has assured that female professional and commercial drivers would be encouraged with maximum support by the federal government.

The Minister gave the assurance when he received the leadership of Female Drivers Association of Nigeria (FEDAN) in his office in Abuja on Wednesday.
