NUC Hikes Private University Application Fees to N25m

• The National Universities Commission (NUC) has increased the application fees for new private universities to N25m from N5m.

• The decision was made to reposition private universities in Nigeria and ensure they meet the needs of the citizenry.

• The NUC also suspended further processing of inactive applications and introduced a reviewed processing fee.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has announced a significant increase in the application fees for new private universities in Nigeria.

According to a memo issued by the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, the application fee has been increased from N5m to N25m.

The Commission explained that the decision was part of its efforts to reposition private universities in Nigeria to better meet the needs of the citizenry.

The NUC also identified the need to review the guidelines for the establishment of private universities to ensure they are positioned to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

As part of the new guidelines, the NUC suspended further processing of inactive applications, including those of private open universities that have not made progress on their applications or made submissions to the Commission for upwards of two years.

The Commission also introduced a reviewed processing fee of N25m for applications.

NUC Executive Secretary, Abubakar Abdulrasheed Resigns

The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Prof. Abubakar Abdulrasheed has announced his resignation from the Commission.

AbdulRasheed made the announcement on Monday at the Commission’s headquarters while approving the issuance of a provisional license to Kogi State University, Kabba.
