MTN Reverses 200% Data Tariff Hike After Backlash

Nigeria’s telecommunications giant, MTN, has reversed its 15G data plan 200 percent tariff hike.

The company disclosed this in a statement through its official X account on Thursday.

Recall that on Tuesday, MTN commenced implementation of a 200 percent tariff hike for the 15G data bundle alongside other data plans.

However, the company has now made a U-turn on the decision, reversing the tariff hike.

The reversal is likely a response to the backlash and criticism that followed the announcement of the tariff hike.

However, MTN did not provide any further explanation for the reversal in its statement.

NCC approves MTN’s disconnection of company providing Int’l interconnect services

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has authorized MTN Nigeria to disconnect Exchange Telecommunications Ltd. from its network due to non-settlement of interconnect charges.

This development was disclosed in a public notice issued on Friday by Mr. Reuben Muoka, the NCC’s Public Affairs Director.
