A crisis is brewing in the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Minister of State for Housing, Yusuf Abdullahi Atta, and the APC National Chairman, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, engage in a bitter struggle over the state chairmanship position.
The incumbent chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, is seeking to continue in office for a fourth term, a move that has been vehemently opposed by Atta.
The Minister has cautioned Ganduje against backing Abbas’s bid, warning that it would lead to a serious crisis in the party.

According to Atta, “We will not take it lightly with anybody trying to return Abdullahi Abbas to office after the expiration of his tenure, because it violates the constitution of the party.”
He further warned, “We would not accept the Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas to be imposed on us for the fourth term. This will surely result in us decamping immediately from the party.”
Atta emphasized, “We are saying loud and clear, I swear if Abdullahi Abbas is given another chance, all of us will decamp from the party and APC will crash and lose 2027. This is my message to anybody who cares to listen.”
The Minister alleged that Abbas’s arrogant and misguided disposition as state Chairman was responsible for the party’s loss in the 2023 governorship election.
“And up till today, the same person has not changed, therefore we are strongly warning that in any case and anyhow Abdullahi Abbas is given another chance everyone should consider the Party losing 2027,” Atta added.

Atta claimed that the party had won the governorship contest with Gawuna and Sule Garo as candidate and deputy in 2023, but Abbas’s anti-God remarks had truncated their victory.
“We were given good training by our parents and we know who God is. We never dare Him, but this man doesn’t know that. Therefore, with him as Chairman, APC is a foregone party in Kano,” Atta said.
Reports indicate that Ganduje is planning to reimpose Abbas as the state chairman of the party for the fourth term.
