  • Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, the former Minister for Women Affairs, is being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged N138 million fraud.

  • Ohanenye is accused of misusing public funds, violating procurement rules, and diverting funds meant for government projects, including the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative.

  • She has been undergoing interrogation at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja since Thursday morning and remains in custody as the investigation continues.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, the former Minister for Women Affairs, over allegations of misusing public funds and diverting N138,413,253.89 from the ministry’s 2023 budget.

According to sources, the misappropriated funds were meant for government projects, including the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative, but were allegedly used for personal purposes.

Ohanenye arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 11:00 AM on Thursday and has been undergoing interrogation since then.

Investigators claim she was involved in financial misconduct, including diverting funds intended for women-focused programs and failing to follow proper budgeting procedures. She is also being investigated for other fraudulent activities, such as unauthorized spending and breaches of procurement laws.

The order, titled “Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” also halts medical treatments related to gender transition.
