Nigeria’s Super Falcons have maintained their position as Africa’s top women’s football team in the latest FIFA rankings, holding firm at 36th place globally.

 

Overview of the Latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings

The FIFA Women’s World Rankings, released on March 6, 2025, reflect the current standings of women’s national football teams globally.

These rankings consider recent match performances, tournament outcomes, and overall team progress.

Notably, the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) continues to hold the top position, followed by Spain, Germany, England, and Japan.

 

Super Falcons’ Position in Global Rankings

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have maintained their 36th position in the global rankings.

This stability showcases their consistent performance on the international stage, despite facing formidable opponents and challenges.

 

African Women’s Football Rankings

Within Africa, the Super Falcons lead the rankings, underscoring their dominance in the continent’s women’s football scene.

The top five African teams and their global positions are as follows:

  • Nigeria: 36th globally
  • South Africa: 53rd globally
  • Morocco: 61st globally
  • Zambia: 62nd globally
  • Ghana: 66th globally

These rankings highlight the competitive nature of women’s football in Africa and the Super Falcons’ prominent role within it.

 

FIFA’s Statement on the Latest Rankings

“The newest edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking™ marks several significant milestones,” FIFA announced.

“This first ranking of 2025 includes a record-breaking 196 teams, the highest number to date. Notably, Djibouti makes its debut, securing the 195th position. This update reflects key developments over the past few months, during which 127 international matches have taken place, including the African qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027.”

Global Women’s Football Landscape

The latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings also indicate shifts among the top teams worldwide.
