Rivers Assembly Knocks Fubara, Deputy With Misconduct Notice | Daily Report Nigeria

In an escalation of the ongoing face-off between the Rivers State House of Assembly and the state government, lawmakers have issued a notice accusing Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, of alleged misconduct.

The notice, obtained by Channels Television, invoked Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution, 1999 (as amended), to justify the lawmakers’ action.

The notice read, “In compliance with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and other extant laws, we the undersigned members of the Rivers State House of Assembly hereby forward to you a Notice of Gross Misconduct by the Deputy Governor of Rivers State in the performance of the functions of her office.”

The development is the latest in a series of disagreements between the assembly and the state government, with the lawmakers accusing Fubara of stalling the budget process.

The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has adjourned a suit filed by the Labour Party against the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) and 30 others to Monday, March 17, 2025.

At the resumed hearing of Suit No: FHC/PH/25/2024 on March 11, 2025, K.C.O. Njemanze, SAN, counsel for the Rivers State House of Assembly, informed the court of a motion filed on March 10, 2025, urging the court to strike out the suit in light of the Supreme

Court’s ruling on February 28, 2025.
