Embattled Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, has called for calm in the state amid the ongoing political crisis. Fubara’s face-off with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, led to President Bola Tinubu suspending him for six months and declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State.
In a statement he personally signed, Fubara stated, “I address you today with a deep sense of responsibility and calm, as we navigate this unfortunate moment in our state’s political history. Since assuming office as your governor, we have prioritised the protection of lives and property and ensured the continuous progress of our dear state.”

Fubara emphasized his commitment to upholding constitutional order and the rule of law, even in the face of the political impasse. He noted, “This was why, immediately after Mr. President’s intervention to broker peace, we did not hesitate to implement the agreed terms in good faith, including welcoming back commissioners who had previously resigned of their own volition.”

The suspended governor stated that his efforts were taken not for personal gains but to foster peace, unity, and stability in the state
However, he lamented that members of the Rivers State House of Assembly frustrated his efforts, making genuine peace and progress challenging.

Military Takes Over Rivers Govt House As Fubara’s Whereabouts Remain Unknown
The movement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara remained unknown on Tuesday night as the military deployed trucks to Rivers Government House in Port Harcourt. The trucks were stationed both inside and outside the Government House on the first night of the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu.
President Tinubu declared emergency rule amid attacks on oil installations in Rivers State. Some militant groups had threatened to blow up pipelines if the Rivers House of Assembly impeached Fubara.
However, hours after the lawmakers served the governor with notice of alleged misconduct, the militants carried out their threat.
