‘Maintaining Law and Order Utmost Task’ - New Sole Administrator of Rivers | Daily Report Nigeria

  • Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas has been sworn in as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State.

  • Ibas has identified maintaining law and order as his utmost task, citing it as the main issue in the state.

  • His appointment comes after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending the governor and other officials for six months.

Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (retd.), the newly sworn-in Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has identified maintaining law and order as his utmost task.

Ibas made this statement while speaking with State House correspondents after his swearing-in ceremony at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to Ibas, the main issue in Rivers State is the maintenance of law and order, and he is committed to ensuring that this is achieved.

“We know the circumstances that led to why we are here, and Mr President made it clear in his broadcast. If the main issue is that of maintaining law and order in the state, I think for any meaningful activities to take place in Rivers State, that is the utmost task that I have,” he said.

Ibas also emphasized the importance of working together with other stakeholders to achieve this goal.

“We will work together with other stakeholders to ensure that we bring peace, order, security and stability to the people and government of Rivers State and Nigeria at large,” he said.

The Sole Administrator’s commitment to maintaining law and order comes after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending the governor and other officials for six months.

Rivers State Of Emergency: Host Communities Warn Of Guerrilla Warfare

The declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been met with warnings from oil and gas-producing communities in the Niger Delta that it could trigger guerrilla warfare in the region.

The communities expressed concerns that the recent bombing of the Trans-Niger oil pipeline in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Ogoni, Rivers State, may be linked to aggrieved ex-militant leaders who feel sidelined in the pipeline surveillance contracts.
