  • New court ruling has freed Queen Naomi and Oriyomi Hamzat, after Oyo state drops charges.

  • The duo were held in custody following a gruesome stamped that occurred in Oyo state.

  • This comes after the sponsors were each granted a bail of N10 million naira, with two sureties.

Oyo state has buried the hatchet, as they drop charges against the organizers of a children funfair which went sideways.

Daily Report Nigeria recalls over 30 people, mostly children who passed away following a stampede at islamiyya school in ibadan, Oyo state in December, 2024.

Governor Seyi Makinde planned to prosecute Ibadan funfair organizers, following stampede.

The lead sponsors of the event include Queen Naomi, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, the owner of Agidigbo FM; and Abdullahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan.

Resident protested, as they demanded that the sponsors of the event be made to face the law.

However in recent updates, today, Thursday, March 20, the state dropped all charges.

 

Confirming the decision of the state, the Oyo state Attorney General, Abiodun Aikomo said although the stampede was a tragic event needed a legal action, the government prioritized justice over persecution.

 

“It was an unfortunate incident that led to the loss of many lives,” Aikomo said in a Facebook live broadcast. “When deaths occur under unnatural circumstances, the law must take its course. However, we considered the empathy and compassion shown by the accused and decided it was in the interest of justice to discontinue the case.”

A man is currently being held in the police custody for assault and attempted murder.
