The Lagos State Police has arrested a man who stabbed his wife to death during an argument.

The man has confessed to the crime as a blood dripping knife was recovered from him.

A man identified as Mr Peter Dike has been arrested for stabbing his wife to death at their home in the Oke-Ira Ilogbo Eremi Community, Marogbo.

This was revealed by the the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday. According to the statement by the police, the suspect carried out this heinous crime against the wife with a kitchen knife. It happened that the couple were embroiled in a heated argument which escalated into violence. In that peak of heightened emotions, Mr. Dike used a kitchen knife and stabbed the wife in between the chest and the stomach area in a bid to silence her.

Information reaching the desk of Daily Report Nigeria, reported that the woman couldn’t survive the knife cut as she was confirmed dead by the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that detectives from the Morogbo Division arrived at the scene, immediately they got the information, but unfortunately, the man has brutally performed the act before the police got there.

CSP Hundeyin speaking to the press on the issue revealed that “The case is confirmed. After a team of detectives who were on surveillance township monitoring patrol in the area got the information, they moved in swiftly and arrested the suspect. One kitchen knife stained with blood was recovered from him. He was brought down to the station and interrogated accordingly.

“He confessed to the crime. The corpse was deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Badagry. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti Yaba.”

This case is one of the pointers of the high rate of violence against women. A statistics evidence from the 2024 DOHS Cares Foundation femicide report proved that about 133 Nigerian women, including teenagers, fell victim to suspected gender-related violence between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024.

This further calls on the government, NGOs and other civil service organizations to look into the plight of Nigerian women as the increasing rates of domestic violence is so alarming.
