  • FG has commenced training 800 personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force as Special Operations Forces.

  • The training aims to build a highly skilled and agile force capable of executing specialised operations in complex environments, tackling terrorism, insurgency, and transnational crimes.

  • The initiative is part of a long-term strategy to develop world-class special operations capabilities within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The Federal Government has launched a comprehensive training program for 800 personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, transforming them into Special Operations Forces.

Speaking at the opening of the training at Camp Kabala, Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna, the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, emphasized the importance of building a highly skilled and agile force.

“This Special Operations Force will serve as a critical pillar in securing our national sovereignty, protecting citizens, and maintaining peace and stability within and beyond our borders,” he said.

The training covers special combat tactics, counterterrorism operations, intelligence gathering, and hostage rescue missions, ensuring that troops can adapt to dynamic threats.

The program will also enhance inter-agency collaboration among security forces and test the physical and psychological resilience of troops.

According to the Minister, “This inauguration is for the first batch of 800 out of 2,400 to be trained as part of a long-term strategy to develop world-class special operations capabilities within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to equipping the Special Operations Forces with modern weapons, surveillance systems, and intelligence tools to enhance operational effectiveness.

The Chief of Army Staff, General Christopher Musa, described the training as a significant milestone in the country’s security efforts.

“The evolving dynamics of modern warfare and the unique challenges posed by asymmetric threats demand that our forces be well-trained, well-equipped, and capable of responding swiftly and decisively,” he said.
