Kogi Prison Break: 5 inmates Recaptured by Authorities

Twelve inmates awaiting trial attempted a successful Kogi prison break.

Five of them have been a crackdown by security personnel while the manhunt is still ongoing.

In the continued crackdown on inmates from the Kogi Prison break, the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed the recapture of five out of twelve inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Koton Karfe, Kogi State.

In a statement disclosed by by the Service Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Umar, who narrated the the cause of the incident. Mr. Umar stated that the jailbreak occurred in the early hours of Monday, March 24, after some inmates awaiting trial allegedly tampered with security locks in their section, leading to twelve persons escaping from jail.

Immediately, the report got to the Acting Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, a quick response team was mobilised in collaboration with heads of security agencies and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Kogi State; who launched a manhunt on the escapes and tightened security in the area.

Mr. Umar reported that five inmates have been recaptured while efforts are still ongoing to ensure the other seven are rounded up.

He said, “As of this moment, five of the fleeing inmates have been recaptured, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining escapees and bring them to justice.”

The Correctional Agency has further assured Nigerians that efforts are being put in place to strengthen security measures at custodial centres across the country.

They also reaffirmed the stand to continue the manhunt til all the jailbreakers are caught and brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the agency has pleaded with the public and all concerned persons to be on the alert and report any suspicious moves or unfamiliar faces to the authorities.
