In a heated Plenary session, the Obubra Representative appealed to the Minister of Health to come to the aid of the LGA as the death toll in the area is alarming.

The Cross River State House of Assembly has urged the Minister of Health to recruit more doctors to the hospitals in the state.

The Lawmakers lamented over the rising toll of death in the state due to the lack of trained hands to handle the teeming population of sick persons.

The appeal was made by the member representing Obubra 1 State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ovat Agbor, who decried the disturbing rate of deaths in Obubra Local Government Area (LGA) due to a shortage of doctors.

In a plenary session, Hon. Agbor presented the motion for more doctors in his LGA capturing the dire state of health situation in the area. He stated that the situation in Obubra LGA is unsustainable and narrated how the General Hospital has only one resident doctor who attends to patients.

Hon. Agbor went further to state that the situation has culminated in reduced quality healthcare, long waiting times, and an increased risk of misdiagnosis.

“People are dying needlessly,” Agbor lamented while noting that the overworked doctor is at risk of burning out, which might have severe consequences on both patients and the physician.

Other lawmakers supported his claim and urged the state government to recruit more doctors and sustain them by increasing their pay too.

The lawmakers who lent their voices to the motion include; Hon. Francis Bassey Asuquo (Odukpani), the leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Davis Etta (Abi), Hon. Martins Achadu (Yala 2), and Hon. Bette Obi (Boki 2).
