  • A bill to reform age limit for presidential seat aspirants has passed a second reading.

  • The bill is set to correct a section of the 1999 constitution.

  • If the bill is passed to a law, aspirants like Peter Obi, Atiku, and Tinubu won’t be able to contest for the next election.

A new reform bill seeking to evaluate the age limit of presidential seat aspirants is being heard by the House of representative.

Daily Report Nigeria gathers that the bill seeks to prevent and bar all candidates over the age of 60 years from contesting in the presidential election, as well as governorship election.

 

The bill, such was sponsored by Rep. Ike Ugochinyere passed for a second reading on Thursday, March 27.

The bill further states that all contestants for the post of presidency, as well as governorship must not be older than the age of 60, and would hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree in their chosen field.

If the bill is made law, politicians like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, President Bola Tinubu and a few others, won‘t be able to Contest again for presidency.

In addition to the age limit bill, the House passed several other important bills for second reading, including the Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education Bill: Sponsored by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Rep. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, this bill seeks to upgrade Alvan Ikoku College of Education in Imo State to a federal university.
