The Music Minister decried how the music ministry has been turned into the music industry because of money.
Nigerian Gospel minister, Dr. Panam Percy Paul has revealed how he rejected a £24m deal from a record label because they wanted him to limit the use of ‘Jesus’ in his songs.
Dr. Percy made this known in an interview with Pastor Emmanuel Iren. He stated that it was a three-year contract of over N7 billion offer but he couldn’t take it because the conditions were contradictory to his belief.
According to Dr. Percy, the label owners suggested that he remove Jesus and use alternatives like “the righteous one”, “Greatest Lover” and others. The major aim was that he wouldn’t mention Jesus.

“The catch was— Can you reduce the number of times you call the name Jesus in your songs?” Percy narrated.
“You actually don’t need to mention the name Jesus. You can call Him other names,” one of the management told me.” “I was shocked, so I told them, You can keep the money while I keep the name.”
Dr. Percy also lamented over the commercialization of Gospel music, stating that the music ministry has now become a music industry. He also expressed concern over how music labels dictate what artists should sing and what they shouldn’t sing.
He called for a true return to the authenticity of Gospel ministry and stressed that money should not make any minister forsake their integrity.
