The pair shared the news on Instagram alongside a black-and-white photo:
“Martina and myself are sad to announce that we are separating after 26 years together. We remain best friends and immensely proud of our two children.”
They met as teenagers in 1999 and married in June 2003.
Both of their kids, Adela (17) and Damian (16), are already involved in football; Adela plays for the Czech Republic Under-17 team, and Damian just signed his first professional deal as a custodian with Fulham.
The couple asked for privacy while they manage this change.
Fans and the wider football community have responded with sympathy and respect.
Čech joined Chelsea from Rennes in 2004, played nearly 500 times for the Blues and won Premier League titles, FA Cups, League Cups and the 2012 UEFA Champions League.
He later moved to Arsenal and retired in 2019.
After hanging up his gloves, Čech took up ice hockey as a goaltender and worked as Chelsea’s technical and performance advisor until 2022.
We will report confirmed updates on the Petr Čech separation as they become available.
