  • Passenger alleges intimidation, public shaming and violation of dignity.

  • Case withdrawn by government, lifetime flight ban lifted.

Comfort Emmanson, the passenger involved in the August 10 altercation aboard an Ibom Air flight, has issued a public apology while also demanding accountability and stronger protection for passengers in Nigerian aviation.

She admitted she could have handled herself better, acknowledging that airplanes are safety-critical environments where crew instructions matter.

Emmanson apologised for any disorder her actions may have caused, but also insisted she was provoked and unfairly singled out during the confrontation that began over phone use.

The incident escalated after the flight landed. Emmanson alleged she was forcibly removed, restrained, filmed, and exposed in a manner that stripped her of dignity.

She emphasised that no passenger deserves such treatment, even in conflict situations.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) condemned her maltreatment, describing her public exposure as a violation of dignity. Emmanson was initially remanded but later discharged on August 13 after the Federal Government ordered withdrawal of the case.

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) had imposed a lifetime flight ban on her, but this was lifted following the government’s intervention and review. She welcomed the decision as a step toward fairness.

Emmanson called for balanced investigations and clear guidelines that guarantee both passenger dignity and safety.

She expressed gratitude to her supporters while pledging to cooperate fully with investigators in good faith.
