APC’s Adesola Elegbeji wins Ogun Remo federal constituency by-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mrs. Adesola Elegbeji, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the Remo Federal Constituency by-election in Ogun State.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Kazeem Bello, made the announcement at the collation centre in Ikenne during the early hours of Sunday.

Prof. Bello confirmed that Elegbeji fulfilled all legal and electoral requirements and was duly elected to represent Remo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

According to him, Elegbeji secured a total of 41,237 votes to defeat her closest rival, Mr. Bolarinwa Oluwole of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 14,324 votes.

He explained that in Ikenne Local Government, APC recorded 10,227 votes against PDP’s 5,595. In Remo North, APC scored 8,053 while PDP got 992. In Sagamu, APC polled 22,958 votes while PDP managed 7,737.

“That Elegbeji Adesola Yetunde Ayoola of APC having satisfied the requirement of law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Prof. Bello stated.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat following the death of Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, the former representative of the constituency, who passed away on January 15 after a brief illness.
