Funeral details to be announced by Zuru Emirate Council
Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (Rtd.), the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, is dead. He passed away in London on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the age of 81, after a brief illness.
Born on October 24, 1943, Sani Sami enlisted in the Nigerian Army on December 10, 1962, and trained at the Mons Officer Cadet School, Aldershot, United Kingdom. He was commissioned on July 25, 1963.

He rose through the ranks with distinction, serving in several sensitive positions.
Notably, he was Commander of the Brigade of Guards under the administration of General Murtala Mohammed and later became military governor of Bauchi State in December 1983.
After his retirement from the army, he returned to his hometown and ascended the throne as Emir of Zuru, bearing the traditional title Gomo II.
The late Emir was widely respected as a disciplined, hardworking, and simple leader, committed to preserving the culture and traditions of the Zuru Emirate.
According to the family, funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Zuru Emirate Council.
