The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned Ibom Air cabin crew member, Juliana Edward, alongside the passenger at the centre of a controversy, Mrs Comfort Emmanson, for further investigation into the recent airport incident.

Mr Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, disclosed this during a question-and-answer session at the Emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee and Stakeholders Meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.

Achimugu explained that he had spoken directly with Mrs Emmanson earlier in the day, adding that both she and the crew member involved had been officially invited for further enquiry.

According to him, “I have spoken with Ms. Emmanson this morning. We are also inviting the Ibom Air cabin crew for continued investigation on the incident. They will be here tomorrow.”

He clarified that contrary to circulating reports, the pilot did not call in security personnel upon landing in Lagos, as the matter had already been resolved during the flight.

However, Mrs Emmanson, who reportedly visited the restroom after landing, was the last to disembark from the aircraft.

Achimugu assured that the NCAA remains committed to uncovering every detail surrounding the matter to ensure accountability and prevent future disruptions.

Meanwhile, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, said the frequency of misconduct among passengers, staff, and crew was a reflection of a broader decline in discipline within the aviation sector.

The NCAA has since issued a fresh directive mandating that all mobile phones must be completely switched off during aircraft take-off and landing, as part of strengthened safety measures.
