Urges Tinubu to avoid religious imbalance when choosing 2027 running mate.
A member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Dominic Alancha, has urged President Bola Tinubu not to repeat a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2027 general elections.
Alancha made the appeal during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, where he described the decision in 2023 as a betrayal of Nigeria’s founding covenant of religious balance.
“We are not saying there is anything wrong with Vice President Kashim Shettima, but what we are saying is that there is everything wrong with the Muslim-Muslim ticket,” Alancha declared.
According to him, many Christians were politically disenfranchised in the 2023 general election because of the religious imbalance on the ruling party’s ticket.

“This is not a distraction. We are only advising Mr President to consider national unity above all. When that time comes, do not consider a Muslim-Muslim ticket,” he added.
Alancha’s remarks come amid early manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 polls, with concerns over how the APC intends to manage ethno-religious diversity in its campaign strategy.
