Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Omolara Sanni, Nigeria’s first female fighter pilot, has added another milestone to her trailblazing career by clinching two major awards at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) in Accra.
At the College’s graduation ceremony held on Friday, June 20, 2025, Sanni was honoured as the Best Allied Student and also received the Best Assistant Commandant Paper award.

The event was attended by senior military officers and dignitaries from across Africa.

Flt. Lt. Sanni first captured national attention in 2019 when she became the first woman to be decorated as a fighter pilot in the Nigerian Air Force after completing her training in the United States.
Since then, she has flown combat missions in the Alpha Jet and served as an instructor on the Super Mushshak aircraft, playing a key role in mentoring young pilots within the Nigerian Air Force.
Her outstanding performance at GAFCSC reflects not just personal excellence but also underscores Nigeria’s growing influence in regional defence collaboration and its ongoing commitment to gender inclusion in the armed forces.
The achievement is also a testament to the Nigerian Air Force’s sustained investment in human capital development under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar.
