D’Tigers return to Nigeria today after finishing their campaign at the 31st FIBA AfroBasket in Angola (12–24 August).

The team flew home on Monday following a 91–75 quarter-final loss to Senegal.

Coach Mohammed Abdulrahman’s side fought hard, but Senegal controlled the knockout game and closed out key moments.

Nigeria showed grit in the group stage, yet couldn’t convert that form in the last eight.

D’Tigers return to Nigeria after AfroBasket exit

Several senior players asked the Nigeria Basketball Federation to change their return flights, but the federation reportedly refused.

A few players including Houston Rockets guard Josh Okogie bought their own tickets and left earlier, while others stayed until the scheduled departure.

Nigeria topped Group B with wins over Madagascar, three-time champions Tunisia and Cameroon.

Caleb Agada, Josh Okogie, Stan Okoye and Ike Nwamu stood out across the tournament.

As D’Tigers return to Nigeria, the team now turns its focus to the FIBA World Cup qualifying windows in November as they chase a spot at the 2027 World Cup in Qatar.
