Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has indefinitely suspended his Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning, Mr Mkor Aondona, following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over serious allegations of sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.

In a swift move to address growing public outrage, Governor Alia on Sunday suspended Mr Aondona, citing the gravity of the allegations and the ongoing EFCC investigation.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Tersoo Kula, who disclosed that the suspension takes immediate effect and will remain indefinite pending the conclusion of the investigation

Governor Alia described the matter as “deeply troubling,” stressing that no official under his administration would be shielded from the consequences of unethical or criminal conduct.

“This administration was elected to serve with integrity and discipline,” he stated. “Any official involved in acts capable of tarnishing the image of government or eroding public trust will be held accountable.”

Reaffirming his administration’s stance, Alia maintained that public servants must operate with the highest ethical standards. He also reiterated his government’s commitment to defending the dignity of all citizens, especially women and vulnerable groups.

According to the statement, “The state government will not interfere with the legal process and expects the suspended aide to cooperate fully with EFCC investigators.”

Mr Aondona is expected to submit himself completely to the EFCC and face the full weight of the law without any form of protection from the state.

Governor Alia assured the public that his administration remains firm in upholding transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.
