The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has directed the Awujale Chiefs in Council to ensure a fair and transparent process in appointing a new Awujale of Ijebuland.
The stool became vacant following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona on July 13, 2025, at the age of 91 after more than 65 years on the throne. Governor Abiodun described the timely appointment of a new monarch as crucial, noting that “nature abhors a vacuum.”
Addressing the council after a meeting in Iperu, the governor assured that his administration would support any candidate presented by the kingmakers once the nomination process concludes. He emphasised that all legal procedures in Ijebuland must be strictly observed to ensure fairness.
The governor described the council members as “respectable personalities who contributed to the successful reign of the late Awujale by maintaining peace in the land.”
