The Federal Ministry of Environment’s National Flood Early Warning Centre has issued a fresh flood alert to Adamawa and eight other northern states.

A circular signed by the Director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, stated that heavy rainfall between August 25 and 29 could trigger flooding in settlements across the north.

Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina states have been placed on red alert, while Sokoto and Zamfara states also have towns flagged for possible flooding.

Adamawa and Katsina recorded the highest number of towns listed. Mubi, Shelleng, and Abba-Kumbo in Adamawa, as well as Katsina, Kaita, and Bindawa in Katsina, are among the locations identified.

Other towns include Gwaram in Jigawa, Nafada in Gombe, Ngala in Borno, Sumaila in Kano, Anka in Zamfara, and Makira in Sokoto.
