Deep into stoppage time, Rüdiger went down under a challenge and briefly clashed with Pachuca players.

Therefore, after hearing his side of the story, referee Ramón Abatti crossed his arms to trigger FIFA’s anti-racism protocol.

This gesture signals zero tolerance for discriminatory behavior.

Speaking after the match, manager Xabi Alonso backed his defender without hesitation:

> “That’s what Rüdiger said, and we believe him. It is important to have zero tolerance in these kinds of situations. FIFA now is investigating. That’s all I can say.”

Meanwhile, Gustavo Cabral has firmly denied using any racist language, insisting he only called Rüdiger “chickens” in the heat of the moment.

Nevertheless, FIFA will open a formal inquiry once Abatti’s report lands on its desk.

Depending on their conclusions, FIFA’s resolve to eradicate discrimination may be strengthened by the impending fines.
