A 47-year-old native doctor, Okonji Chimeze, was arrested in Ibusa, Delta State, after police found two pump-action guns and a cutlass hidden in his ceiling.
In a separate stop-and-search operation, two suspects were caught with a cut-to-size gun, cult insignia, a battle axe, and a wooden pistol concealed in their vehicle.
Police identified the suspects as members of the Aiye Confraternity, revealing they bought the firearm in 2024 for N87,000 from a suspect still at large.

Operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad of the Delta State Police Command have apprehended a 47-year-old native doctor, Okonji Chimeze, for alleged gunrunning.

According to a statement issued in Warri on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, Chimeze, a resident of Umuehe Quarters, Ibusa, in Oshimili North Local Government Area, was arrested on June 14, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m. following credible intelligence.

The operatives reportedly conducted a search of his residence, during which they discovered two automatic pump-action guns and a cutlass hidden in the ceiling of his room. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

In a separate operation, the Eagle-Net Surveillance Team of the Delta State Command, on June 18, 2025, at about 12:20 p.m., intercepted a black Toyota Corolla with registration number RSH 90 RC during a routine stop-and-search along the Otokutu Bridge in Warri.

The vehicle, driven by Telvin Richmond, 27, and accompanied by Frank Obiorah, 26, both residents of Opete by Otokutu, was thoroughly searched. Officers found a locally made cut-to-size gun, two yellow hand bands bearing the inscription “Neo Black Movement (NBM),” a battle axe, and a wooden pistol concealed in the car’s door compartments.

Preliminary findings indicated that the suspects are members of the ‘Aiye Confraternity’ and had purchased the firearm in 2024 for N87,000 from a suspect who is currently at large. Both suspects are now in custody as investigations progress.

According to charge sheet FHC/ABJ/CR/197/2025, filed by FCCPC’s legal team led by Nsitem Chizenum Esq. and obtained by Nairametrics, the company and its executives are accused of failing to appear before the Commission on March 6, 2025, as directed in a summons dated February 25.
