A 55-year-old man, Afolabi Samuel, has been arraigned before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly threatening to kill his wife and children by setting them on fire.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court on Wednesday that the defendant committed the offence on June 22 at about 9:00 a.m. in the Olokuta Matthew area of Ado Ekiti.

Oriyomi said, “The defendant on June 22 at about 09:00 hours at Olokuta Matthew area in Ado Ekiti, did threaten to kill his wife and children by setting them ablaze with petrol which he bought and the matches he kept by his side.”
He further informed the court that, “The defendant on the same date, time and place in the Magisterial District did conduct himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.”
According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under Sections 69 and 181(d) of the Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2021.
The defendant’s counsel, Joy Raphael, pleaded with the court to grant bail, assuring that her client would not abscond.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted bail in the sum of ₦50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till July 22 for hearing.
Before adjourning, Adeosun advised the defendant to maintain good conduct ahead of the next court appearance.
