A man was abducted by gunmen operating in a sports utility vehicle on Friday morning in the Okpuno area of Awka, Anambra State, shortly after reportedly dropping off his children at school.
Witnesses said the assailants, who drove a stainless-coloured Toyota Highlander without a license plate, fired multiple shots into the air to disperse onlookers before whisking the victim away.
The sudden attack threw the area into chaos as pedestrians scrambled for safety.

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the abduction and assured the public that efforts are underway to rescue the victim and apprehend those responsible.
In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police described the incident as unfortunate and pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The abduction of an unsuspecting member of the public in the early hours of today, 27th June 2025 at Awka as captured in a trending video is unfortunate,” the statement read.
“The three armed men operating in a stainless colored Highlander without a plate number shot indiscriminately and abducted the victim.
“The command has assured that its operatives shall leave no stone unturned in making sure that the victim is rescued alive.”
Police operations have since been activated in the area, with ongoing investigations aimed at tracking down the suspects and ensuring the safe return of the abducted man.
