As for the charge, it is not merely one of irregular betting but one of sporting fraud.

Investigators have alleged that Okoye deliberately accepted a booking in the 64th minute of Udinese’s 2-1 Serie A win over Lazio.

This game was held at the Dacia Arena on March 11, 2024.

Also garnering attention and reportedly triggering further investigation by the Italian football authority was his cynical booking for time-wasting with barely any duration left in the match.

Consequently, Okoye and three of his friends have been under investigation for game-fixing activities.

This situation certainly punctuates a very promising year that was emerging for the goalie.

Okoye’s move to Udinese from Watford happened under the summer 2023 transfer window, and the player was just settling into life in Italy before this controversy came up.

Thereupon, the footballing fraternity waits to see whether these charges shall result in any suspension or outright ban.

Should he be found guilty, Okoye could be prevented from playing till 2028-a huge disadvantage for player and country.
